Kehinde,

The verse you are referring to in Romans 8:13 is an incredible one: For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

The word "Spirit" there is not referring to the Holy Spirit, but to our new nature, the same type of spirit (or life)that was in Christ Jesus and has now been given to us when we were born again.

You can get this understanding be starting to read from the beginning of chapter 7 through chapter 8. The Holy Spirit's work begins in chapter 8 verse 26 "Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities." In the same way that our new nature or new life puts to death the deeds of the body, the Holy Spirit ALSO helps us achieve this by interceding for us.

The short answer your question is that you need a combination of speaking the word of God (Vocal confessions) to build up your faith in what God has already done for you, Fasting, Praying in Tongues for Personal Edification and Yielding to your New Nature (conscience).

Some people take just one of these keys and are able to gain some measure of victory in their Christian walk. Even denominations where they do not fast or pray in tongues produce people who are able to walk in holiness. This is because of their ability to yield to their new nature.

However, your path will be much faster and victorious if you will combine all these keys as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Please listen to Dave Roberson's free tape series, The Born-Again Trail available from http://www.PrayerCenterMedia.com for more on the New Nature.

He also deals with putting too death the deeds of the body in Chapter 10 of his book, The Walk of the Spirit, The Walk of Power available as a free download from http://www.DaveRoberson.com. The chapter is titled Purging & Mortification.

Great!

I am learning how to be 'absolutely' led by God's Spirit following the example of Christ who did nothing till he heard from the Father. But I'm curious, we are instructed to put to death the misdeeds of the body by the Spirit. How? By vocal confessions?
